We continued our exploration of buddha nature this week and learned that we need to change ‘outwardly looking’ to ‘inwardly seeing’. This gave rise to a good wee discussion about what we understand by that, as it’s not an easy thing to put into words. We heard about the origins of the loving kindness practice. This was taught by the Buddha as an antidote to fear and was practised by a group of monks who then transformed their fear, and thus their experiences and their surroundings, into a loving environment. So with that as inspiration, we had our first guided practice of loving kindness and – yes – it really did create a positive atmosphere in the group. So we’ll try to do a short practice every day if possible, to be ready to start to expand it towards others.
