Week 1 Autumn 2013 Review

It was lovely to see quite a few new faces this week, and rewarding to see those who have come back. In fact we spent some hearing how the classes had helped people who attended last year to get started on regular meditation practice. Our focus for the start of the course was to get a flavour of what meditation really is, and what it isn’t.

We watched a short video snip from Mingyur Rinpoche about our ‘Monkey Mind’. This brought a lot of laughter, and nods of recognition. We all knew exactly what he was talking about! It is a clip which is well worth watching again. It’s called What Meditation Really Is and is third down the page. It’s so helpful to remember that meditation is playful, not serious. But it can seriously help your mind!

Mukesh plunged straight in the deep end and held a silent sitting for 20 minutes – on the first evening!  And yet everyone survived, well done one and all. Of course, we also spent some time over a cup of tea getting to know each other.

In the coming week, everyone is going to find a time and space to try out a few minutes sitting in meditation each day. We’ll  find out how that goes next Wednesday. (No pressure, just a check in.)
