This week’s meditation class had a wealth of wisdom in the teachings, so don’t worry if you’re struggling to get to grips with it all, we’re going to go over it again next week, and we’ll watch again the teaching on Mind and Appearance and Essence of Mind.
Some people react to the idea of watching the same teaching twice (or more often?) as a waste of time. ‘I’ve seen that one, I want something new.’ is the attitude, and that’s how we are nowadays in daily life, so it’s a hard habit to break out of. But in fact there’s nothing new in the teachings, no matter how often we listen – it’s the same information that’s been given for the last 2,500 years. So we’re trying to work with the way we listen, so that we might start to deepen our understanding beyond the words.
With this in mind, I recommend a teaching from Sogyal Rinpoche called Getting to Know Your Mind. Observe how you listen and notice whether you hear something different or new from this teaching. You might get a surprise!
